Will this fit a hobie outback? Is there a way to attach It to a smooth top with no rails?

smooth top no rails you'd need different "feet"- the Qclip kind.

but it will fit an hobie outback-- I used it for an Adventure Island with the amas on either side of the hull

Can the different feet be bought, and used to make this work?

You can check fitlookup.yakima.com , put in your car info and you'll see which q-clips you'll need for your car.
I was pretty confused when I first got my yakima rack too  :smt044
