I'm kind of a hack at tying flies but here is a design that has worked for me when I fished streamers for rockfish. It's about 6" long. It's a 2 hook design. I also used Owner Long Shanks 9/0 hooks for lings. I also made some articulated 2 hook designs which used an action disc. See if I can find one.

That thing's wicked! Looks like a deceiver ate a clouser.

I'm just curious, what are you trying to target with a large fly in the Cove? Rock fish? From a kayak or from shore?

Ernest, you can catch all of the target species with flies, however you can't fish deep water so you have to target shallow water structure or suspended fish. Fishing from a boat is more productive than shore fishing. I was in a lure design contest for a few years and fished custom designed flies only on the salt and did well but could only place second until I switched to plastics. Bottom line is conventional tackle will out fish flies on most days, however, fly fishing is more about the art and science of fishing and less about catching big fish. I am traveling light but may have to bring my 8 weight and swing some flies just for fun. Everything fights harder on a fly rod.  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 Here is a 26" ling I caught on a clouser at SWS.

Thanks Scott. I have seen people fly fish for Blacks and Blues, but not often. The only fish I've ever caught on flies are trout, striper and shad. May have to try rf some day.

Me and Racerx came up with these...
Hopefully they're good enough for the cove.

Damnit! I don't have any Racerx or Black Bear left! I have to get up there and do another trade, LOL. until then my flies will just have to suck...

Tie some flashier ones for variety, something like D.Blanton's flash tail clouser.

Here are some ling streamers. The green/white one is an articulated design with two double hooks. The black one is wrapped on a 9/0 owner long shank hook with a built in weed guard.
