Tossing anything more than 1 ounce gets tiring quick.

My current setup which have caught plenty of BASS on a yak is a $25 rod and reel combo by READY2FISH. The only thing I've changed is the line to fluorocarbon leader paired with braid.

I have 3 rods and reels = $75

You can get really caught up with all the expensive rods and bait casters... Easily spend several hundred dollars to thousands... To me, as long as my CHEAP setup is catching fish... That's all that matters.

EdPingol it's true what you say.  But when you're bass fishing from a kayak it's totally different.  Kind off like getting a premium quality lighter paddle. My personal preference for square bill, shallow crankbait kayak fishing is a Powell ENDURANCE 724 CB rod.  It's partial glass on the upper and composite on the other end.  I feel it's a better rod compared to a all glass rod for kayak fishing and is forgiving to where a graphite rod just wants to pull your crankbait higher in the water column.  It just doesn't feel right crankbait in with a graphite rod.  Too stiff of a rod doesn't let you're crankbait achieve it's wobble action.
Any reel with a 6 gear ratio match to 15 lb P-Line FloroClear.
