I want to get off the beaten trail an try somewhere less visited but still somewhat easy to access from shore.  From aerial pictures and satellite pictures I find the stretch between Stump Beach an Fish Mill quite potential.

Has anyone dove that stretch and can offer some thoughts?

Google street shows there is no designated parking along that stretch.  Can I just park on side of the road?

That whole stretch is within the state park boundary.  I should not be trespassing on any private property, right?

Thanks a lot an happy diving everyone!

That stretch of the coast is quite exposed so unless it's a flat day exercise extra caution, watch the waves for a while before making your decision to dive or not to dive.
Probably the most protected access on that stretch is at the north side "hole in the fence" (south of Fisk Mill) where's some protection from the NW swell.
The entire area is withing the SP State Park so trespassing is not a concern.
Dive safe!

There's an MPA over there somewhere. Check the map on DFG website. Good luck

Stewart's Point Marine Conservation Area: Take of all living marine resources is prohibited except the following may be taken recreationally from shore only: marine aquatic plants other than sea palm, marine invertebrates, finfish by hook and line, surf smelt by beach net, and species authorized in Section 28.80 of these regulations by handheld dip net.

No take of any living organisms is permitted in the Stewart's Point or Gerstle Cove Marine Reserve.

The recreational take of abalone and finfish is allowed in the Salt Point Marine Conservation Area.

As far as parking goes, there are several sizeable pullouts along the highway between Fisk Mill Cove and Stump Beach that accommodate several cars each. From there, its a quick hike through a grassy meadow and then a scramble down the rock face to the water's edge. You can see them pretty clearly on Google Earth.

It requires crossing the highway, but I usually park here (N38 35.186/W123 70.355) because there's a good network of trails once you cross through the fence that branch out to good spots to get down to the water.

I made a dive there.  It wasn't really fishy that day and the ab weren't huge or anything.  It is exposed so it can get rough.  In fact the wind came up and the waves started breaking and it rolled me and my kayak.

Lots of Abs in that area. I use a float tube and 40-50' anchor line and a 3lb.weight at the end. Dive down with the weight in your hand and place it in an area that looks good. I like the area just south of there for easy access and plenty of small protected coves. Just a tip...

I went up yesterday to try out this spot, but ended up diving elsewhere.  Was hoping to do a report with some bottom pictures for you guys; perhaps another day.

NOAA forecast was 2' or less; so supposedly a calm day.  When I drove thru Bodega I could see the waves are definitely smaller than usual.

Easily found the spot.  Crossng meadow was a breeze, the descend, while steep, was quite short.  But the surf zone is not calm.  This stretch of coast is dotted with many car-to-house-size boulders.  A gentle roller becomes gushing water when it squeezes through the gaps.

I thought I can managed it; so attempted to swim out to calmer waters.  It was not apparent from the bluff, but when in water I was hit with a small wave about every 10 seconds, and a huge wave about every 30 seconds, big enough to knock me off balance.  I was moving backwards overal.  When the waves pushed me against the rocks, good judgement set in and I got out of the water, went down to the beaten path (Gerstle Cove) and got my limit of 8" abs.

Nice fish!

I'll have to give that spot another chance, on a super calm day.
