New spear fisher, new to site

What's happening! Dove Russian Gulch Saturday. No kings. Viz decent at 5-6 ft.

Both calf cramped up in water. Any advice on how to prevent this? Heard take magnesium supplements.

To prevent cramps you could try hydration the night before your dive as well as leading up to the dive.  I wouldn't drink a lot right before you start your dive though.  Bananas are very good but if you're superstitious then a small can of low sodium V8 vegetable juice has enough of magnesium and potassium.

What Nate said.  I used to have cramps on my legs and my doctor told me to eat green (not ripe) banana which is loaded with potassium.  I'm not superstitious so I often bring bananas with me when kayaking.  Welcome to NCKA by the way.

Welcome! Stretching helps beforehand. When you get a cramp in the calf, stretch your leg out and pull your fin tip towards your chest.

For you bananas are good luck and good food. I have been on many fishing boats where they ask if bananas are on board before leaving dock.  I don't believe in voodoo, but will start a new "diver brings bananas" tradition to limit on rock fish.
