Bummer, I got skunked again! :smt010

Got to Oyster Point at 7:30 with some light winds blowin'. I was worried that it was going to be a really bumpy ride and maybe not even doable. But the winds were doing strange things changing direction and even completely dieng out turning the bay into lake SF. The tide turned right when I got to the tubes so took a look around wth the ff. There were some fish in there, but the numbers were pretty low. I broke out the Rattle Trap and got down to trolling some 8's through the wash. Nada. Switched up to a hairraiser... nada. Figured a swim bait might work.... nada. Some PB'rs came in and squatted on the whole spot. Got right up close (30 ft from the tubes) and dropped their troll motor. The two of them casted all over the wash and left me no place to fish... :smt097 WANKERS!!! I was gonna get mad but since the weren't catching anything I just gave em the stinkeye and laughed at them.

Decided to spread out and threw on a Croc spoon. Made some serious trollng action and headed all the way to Monster Park and back twice. There were almost no bumps so got off the pedals and got down to some paddling. What a great paddle! Still though, no bites the whole way. The PB'ers left so stopped at the tubes on the way back and cast across the wash numerous times, trolled a few more 8's and I was outta there. I worked it as hard as I could for 4 hours but just couldn't get anything going...

Offshore flow means low winds on the Forebay and San Luis Reservoir this weekend. You /will/ get your first Striper there I'll bet. I am started to think I may do it Sat or Sun or both (what's a little 1:15 drive these days).

bummer,

the afternoon incoming bite was hot again.  The key to the tubes is get your nose right in there. I used to fish 40-50 yards off and get skunked.  Then I started getting 4-5 fromt tubes and the shore trolling figure 8's.  Skunk was off from then on. Most of my fish have come right off the shore.  but I have nailed some nice ones 70 yards out the wash too.

the power boaters do weird stuff once again. when i was there with my wife ther was a bass boat skimming the water stopping in afew spots and when they were leaving they buzzed the shoreline where people were fishing.

thats almost as lame as the folks in so cal tearing up a kelp paddy while folks are using it when they get skunked.

they are just angry because gas is expensive and they caught nothing.

Yeah, on the ff all the fish were right up against the tubes or inbetween where there's a little bit of calm. There's a hole (probably the 70 yard spot you talked about) that was holding some also. I fished up close but must just be the timing of it all. Either that or the Stripers were full and lazy on the inshore side sleeping. :sleepy1: then decided to get a snack before nightfall.
