Spearfishing Rockfish and Lingcod After Dark

Question: Can rockfish and lingcod be taken by spearfishing after dark? (Brian S.)

Answer: Yes, you may spearfish for rockfish and lingcod at night, except in San Francisco Bay (California Code of Regulations Title 14, section 27.56).

I grew up blackwater scuba diving back home in the rivers of South Carolina.  We didn't worry about sharks but there were tons of alligators everywhere!!  Anything below 15' was lights out and we used cave lights attached to helmets in order to try and see when searching for sharks teeth and other artifacts.  You'd still only get about 24-36" of visibility even with the light.  Nothing like running up on a big alligator lying on the bottom or even some of the giant catfish that we would see.  you'd be surprised how scared you can be when you turn a corner or look into a cave and there's a mouth of a 50-70lb catfish sitting there waiting on you!! I've never done any night diving but I'd assume it can't be any worse.
