The screen of my fishfinder has been fogging up.  :smt013 The manufacturer already replaced the case three (3) times for the past eight months.  Any ideas how to prevent the screen from fogging up?  I have my ff installed on my sit-on-top kayak and it does get wet constantly since it's an open deck.  Thank you for your input on this. :smt001

Keep it in the house for a while.  If you want to go crazy put it in a box with a desicant pack.

this may sound crazy but I got this tip form a Fishing & Hunting Magazine....

get a big zip lock bag, put your FF (or what ever electric gadget that got dumped into the water) and then put a cup of rice grains (raw of course) seal the zip lock and the uncooked rice will draw out the moisture. Sounds crazy but worth trying. :smt002

That's not crazy, simple science.

My GPS had some moisture in it and I left it in the sun and it roasted out (probably not the best idea)

BTW the Meridian Marine is not very marine friendly.....

:smt001 Thanks guys for all your replies.  I'm hoping there's some other way getting it fix, or is moisture build up common on ff?   The ff is 'water-resistant' upto 4 feet; it doesn't get dip in 1' of water but just water splashes from the paddling.  Does your ff get moisture each time you take it out kayak fishing?  If you tell me it's common, then I'll try to live with it. (no choice.) :smt012

Yes, it does happen from time to time - I used to leave mine in the garage - away from the sun. I'll try the rice in the zip-lock the next time I experience moisture build up (most likely during the Sturgeon season :smt003)

...and remember to clean your connections with corrosion x after an Ocean / Bay trip :smt045

Thanks for the confirmation Mooch!  I feel a little better now...  I usually just wash the connections with 'fresh' water.  do you use  a 'special' spray to prevent the saltwater residue?

if you are not scared of opening up the FF yourself you can slip in a moisture silica capsule available at dive shops that carry underwater cameras. these little capsules keep everything inside the ff dry like they do in cameras. that will keep the fogging of the screen to a minimum. if you do go this adventurous route, be sure and use a little silicin grease on the seal before re-assembly. it'll save you some heartache.

Thanks for the pic & 'excellent' recommendation.  :smt004 I will definitely consider this.  For now, the ff is still under 1-year warranty.  So until the manufacturer stops repairing it, I'll pester them up to replace the case or give me a 'new' unit.  I'm sure missing a lot of fishing days since it's so easy to rely on ff now than having w/o it.  And it's a big hassle to keep mailing this ff back...  :smt012

Do I know you from the 'underworld'?  Do you fish dive?

After almost a year I had moisture in my head unit too.  I took it apart, dried it out, and put some grease on the seal to help it seal.  It got moisture in it again.  Then I took it apart, dried it again, and put some silicon on both sides of the seal.  There isn't any moisture in the head unit yet. Next time I will try to put something moisture absorbant in it.

hey thanks Goldeneye!  I'll ask the manufacturer if opening the unit and putting the silicone grease on the seal will NOT void the warranty....

so that's you John!  see you in the water.
