Rod mounting tips

 I'm getting ready to install flush mounts on my new Tarpon 13t and was wondering if I should mount them straight back, 45 degrees, or 90 degrees straight out. I also want to mount a scotty quick draw side mount up near my calf. I don't have the room on the top rail so i'm thinking iside of the yack in one of the foot pegs I'm not going to use. Randall

When I mounted the rod holders in my Tarpon160 it drove me crazy thinking of all the possible combos.Sitting in the yak with a rod in hand helped.I ended up with the 2 rear straight back for casting clearance on the backswing.Yet still usable for trolling.The front has 2 scotty mounts which are adjustable for whatever(side troll,forward,rear,etc.)My Tarpon didn't have the width on the gunnels for flush mounts up front.A center mounted scotty needs a height extension to clear your legs(unless you only use short butt rods).Or you can use a tube style or an adjustable Ram mount.In the rear tank well most guys have a bucket or crate with more tubes mounted.There you can store rods,gaff,net,etc.Basically tailor your boat to your perceived needs.
