I decided late yesterday afternoon to make a quick run to Cabrillo Beach to fish on the inside of the sea wall, 10 minutes from our house. The mission: One rod, no FF, throw plastic until sunset, strictly CPR (catch, photograph, then release).

I was OTW at 4:15 pm and off just after sunset.
Conditions: quite windy until sunset when it laid down

The report: 1 barred sand bass, 1 calico bass (both about 13.5 inches), 1 slimy lizard fish. (not photographed, yuk!)

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS - This cruise ship was moored very close to where both bass were caught, and not at the cruise ship terminal.  I was fishing about 100 yards from the boat.  While I was fishing it gave three loud blasts and then using vector control -- maneuvered laterally away from the dock, then it maneuvered slowly in reverse, away from me.  When it gave the blasts I had just caught the sand bass a few moments before.  About that time the Port Police showed up but it took no encouragement to move a bit further away.  :smt003

The wind makes it look like it's coming towards me in this shot but you can tell there is no bow wake -- it's moving away.  I have a sequence of shots of this thing maneuvering away.  (And the Port Police positioning themselves between me and the ship.)  :smt003

THE AIR SHOW - There must have been an airshow nearby - I was treated to flyovers by a B-17, a B-25, and (I've learned) is a Waco.

I was greeted at the ramp by my friend, the local blue heron, who was there both when I put in and when I got out.

And here's another Cabrillo Sunset - Happy Easter, NCKA   :smt006

Awesome report, Dave!  I was with you the entire time.  That cruise ship is freakin huge!

There's a halibut out there waiting for you.   :smt001
