VHF radio HELP!

I've had my West Marine brand VHF250 for something like 10 years now & still going strong.  Depends how you take care of it.

The odd one lasts, but most fail quickly. Sub standard waterproofing, speakers and mic. I'm not sure if they were rebranding Unidens a decade ago.

Not sure either.  Their older VHF150 & 250 models were great units!  Their 50 was, uh, poor to say the least.  My 250 has VHF, FRS, AM, FM, AIR & WX bands.  Uses the Uniden mic. so I assume the radio was made by Uniden too.

I also have the West Marine brand VHF250 going past 10 years. I actually bought a pare but one stop receiving and Transmitting after one season. Problem: broken copper coil in the antenna. Brought it back to west marine and told them the probolem and  they told me they couldn't do anything about it. No spare parts, like the antenna could be ordered.

Might check with Uniden but I don't think the antenna was removeable to replace.  Maybe service it with Uniden?
