Hi guys I usually go by the motto that the best time to fish is when you can.... but I am thinking of going out in the bay for strippers or halis Wednesday with my brother in his Pb.  We would launch from the Berkley marina.  I know the tides make a big difference.  I don't think the tides look very good.  What time would be the best to fish?  I am thinking of just saying screw the tides and fish anyway. What do you think?

Thanks, Patrick

screw the tides........two weeks ago Duane,ChuckE,Frankfishing all hooked up along the pier on a big outflow, the water was dirty as hell.

the wind is just starting to blow here.......big fog usually keeps the wind down, until it burns off, sometimes.

Agree with Fishhunter. last Sat 6-2-07 went out with a friend on kayaks, my friend caught 36" halibut drifting shiner. Water was muddy and choppy. Myself, I lost one at the yak around 25". Very windy around noon.

Hi Patrick,

I live in Oakland and have going out Alameda Rockwall (West Alameda) since the rockfish season ended in December. I am learing that the Bay is one of the most complex and sensitive fishing ecosystems around. Whether you catch fish or not catch fish is very dependent on the incoming and outgoing tides.
Slack tide times in the Bay is a killer as there is no fish around. You might as well go fishing in your toilet.
I am finding that you really have to be spot on on the tides (incoming-high) and outgoing-low). You will be very surprised to see how much water movement there is in the Bay. One way to tell is to look at the big ships anchored in the Bay near San Francisco. If the front-bow is facing west, it's and incoming tide, if the ship is turned around and the sterm facing west it's an outgoing tide.
Some guys swear that there is more fish coming in to feed during the outgoing tide (low).
I personally figure that it will take me a few years to figure kayak fishing in the Bay.

I know that people are starting to catch halibuts in the Bay and the Berkeley Flats is one place to hookup.

Good luck,

Da Bruddah (Michael)
