mooching reel

The video is kinda goofy, but the reel looks like a lot of fun:


Anybody here ever use one of these? Any thoughts about using such a setup from a kayak?

Yeah, I have one.  It's a blast.  Not just the reel, but typically these are paired to long noodly mooching rods.  It's not for those of you that only like fast retrieves through.  If you are a fly rodder and like the 1:1 retrieve, you'll be right at home.

Used those reels up north in Puget Sound and around British Columbia. I wasn't overly impressed with the slow retrieve rates but worked good on soft mouth fish. Smaller versions might work well for kokes.

I find it actually quite easy to handle as you can pretty much high stick it with little concern.
