Things we can learn from the two missing boys in FL

A simple Spot would have helped these kids. Not that their parents couldn't afford it. I take there things for my safety. NO1 is a PFD. NO 2 VHF. No3 is a Spot no 4 is my Shark shield. The way a spot works is it contacts satellites that Contacts their offices in FL and they contact the proper authority's. No matter on land or sea in the world.  What a tragedy, that more people do not use spots.

My brother-in-law is a retired Admiral, he said " the only place tht this won't work is some places in central Africa. He was in charge of the riverine's And some special forces. They use something similar. And to be sure how well it works you can see where you are tracked to and also mark spots by checking in. If you have never used or seen how it works I know it is better than having a GPS with no way to call someone. I'm old and like doing some hiking alone. This works for me. AS it sends wife a message I'm ok via her cell if I'm late. It gives her my location as well.

Agreed.  I carry all of those except the shark shield and my wife recently told me I had to get one so I will soon have one of those also.  Just in case.  I have the spot because I hike also, but for those that only ocean kayak one of those transmitters that activate when wet may be a better option.  Just remember to have them on your PFD because if something happens without warning and you are separated from the kayak you need to be able to get assistance.
