Good afternoon everyone!  Fairly new angler here, fishing mostly from the beaches and cliffs in Santa Cruz.  It would be an understatement to say that I am hooked (bad pun intended).  I love rock cod fishing and I'm looking to step my game up and get out on the water to fish the kelp beds.

I'm about 5'10, 175lbs.  I've done a little research and looking at a Perception Pescador 12.  My budget is around $500 for the kayak itself so I can have a bit of money to play with for accessories.  I will do a search of the site for other recommended kayaks in the same price range, but feel free to chime in with suggestions  :smt001

The forum seems to have a wealth of knowledge and I can't wait to join you all in the water!

If you think you're hooked now, just wait until you go fishing from a kayak...

Be sure to read the safety/gearing up suggestions.

welcome
Carmel Valley  here...

you'll find a kayak for sure if you keep looking...have you test paddled any ...seems the best way to save buying twice

Thanks everyone!  I forgot to mention where I was from, I live and work in San Jose and hit the Santa Cruz / Capitola area 2-3 times a week to surf or fish depending on if there is any swell.  I'm still in research mode and leaning towards a 12 footer.  I'll use it for mostly lakes and reservoirs, only taking it out in the Monterey Bay to fish the kelp beds when the swell is flat.  If there's swell I'll be in the water surfing  :smt002

Decided on the Pescador 12 Angler from Amazon.  It arrived today missing the Scotty Rod holder knob bolt.  I called Amazon and they refunded me $54 bucks for the missing knob!  Total shipped to my door with the refund is $550.  I'm pretty excited and can't wait to get this thing wet!
