I had them survey me verbally over the summer on the Sac.  They just pulled up to boats that were trolling and while one drove the other checked off answers on a clipboard.  They were not bad looking young ladies so I had nothing but cooperation for them.  Can't be getting paranoid around the ladies!

My 16 year old daughter got the letter as well but I did not. So; the source of NOAA letter contact list is probably random selection of  DFG licence list because I can't think of any other way they would get my daughters numbers.

My daughter only shoots fish and has no patience or interest for hook and line-so NOAA has to enjoy that kind of data.

Hopefully, the management agencies don't manage/enforce themselves out of a job.

When has a government agency ever gotten smaller?     :smt011

Decisions about the health of our fisheries being made  randomly???   That's gotta be accurate collection intel... not.

I was approached by a DFG volunteer last December a Marin county lake and asked a series of questions about my experiences fishing. He asked very politely if he could conduct a quick interview and most of the questions were about how much success I was having catching fish.

Based on the questions it seemed they were mostly trying to see if the fish plant program was producing satisfactory results, however it was curious that they asked about my fishing habits outside of just fishing that particular lake. Overall I think the intention of the interview was positive, however as the saying goes 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions'.

Huh, that's weird... I had a similar thing happen but by phone. A few months ago I got a call from DFW (I think, can't really remember right now) asking me when, where, how often I fished what I caught what I kept etc.. it was quite lengthy (despite her assurance that it would only take a minute or two) and detailed to the point of feeling a little intrusive. Still not sure what it was all about but it seemed a minor inconvenience in the end.

The selection for that call is a randomized subsample that probably comes from the license database, and has been going on for many years.

Actually, it is a sound statistical method.

I can math.

Like the "statistics" they used to close down the Oyster Farm up in Bolinas?      There's guys who catch fish consistently, then those who rarely fish, but have a license.        If surveys were a 50/50 split between those types
it could be... but it's not 50/50
My concern is the next MLPA is going to happen from inaccurate data collected this way.

First year some of the states decided to try and make some money for this so they charged a fee to register you for national license even though it was free.

First year had to print out, MD DFG checked to see if you were carrying the national register paper with you.
