Was wondering if anybody is using side imaging on their kayak and how you set up the transducer, or is it more practical to just have a traditional vertical signal return?

I have a hummingbird 598ci Si and mount the transducer on the back of the rudder of my Hobie and it works well. The side imaging helps locating structure, schools, dropoffs, points, and springs within about 150' each side. The screen is really small and i miss alot of details that i find when watching the recorded video on a computer screen. Mine uses about 500mamps so I had to upgrade to the battery linked below to last a full day. After using the side imaging for a year I don't regret the purchase but it was a very expensive upgrade.

Si isn't all that practical on a kayak yet. The lowrance dsi does a good job if you want greater definition of the structure below you.  The si for a boat is great!

Thanks for the input guys . Going to buy a sonar soon and don't want to have buyers remorse.
