OW OW OW OW OW !!!!!!!

I've had to remove hooks from that fleshy part between my thumb and pointer finger before and all I did was sew it all the way through. Thank goodness it was a big hook. Then I sniped the barb off and threaded it back through; had a nice clear hole through my hand and it bled like the dickens. I've also put a size 22 fly in my back and my paramedic brother-in-law had a hard time removing that one. I just told him to rip it out and he was scared to, but he finally gave in and got it out with one quick tug. Never felt a thing. I just hate getting hooked.

I had to have a Salas 6x hook surgically removed from my forearm when I was 14.  The geniuses on the party boat wanted to just rip it out.  Dr. told me to that if they had done this, I probably would have lost the use of my thumb!  Be careful, I prefer the push it through and snip method when possible, and I hope I never need to do it again.
