I launched from MBK Thursday and Friday on Thursday I caught one rock cod by the red bouy and anouther one to the left of the orange or yellow ( sorry color blind) bouy way out in front of the harbor 150ft I found a few areas where there were schools of rock fish but I would drift over them and not be able to find my way back the next day I caught two more fish by the red bouy.
They were nice sized fish and I was able to get some good fillets out of them. Yesterday I went to Broadway bait and takle ( this is the fishing Mecca if you are in Sacramento) and bought some fishing bars and a heavier rig, they also had a cool looking ling jig that I cant wait to try out.
Just out of curiosity does anyone have any recommendation on places by MBK that you can fid rock cod. I like launching there but I was also thinking about lovers point for my next launch too.

i think you can find rockfish out by the kelp beds north of MBK but the best rockfishing i know of in the area is in pacific grove, lovers point, north towards otter cove and coral street. that area has a lot of variety and you might even catch the elusive calico bass.

MBK sure is a nice launch and all but if you head south you will find lots of rockfish. even better, go down to carmel, launch at the south end of monastery and work your way north towards carmel river beach and stillwater cove / pinnacles / pescadero pt.
