I will be driving over to Bodega dunes on Saturday of the event to hit the surf for some perch action.  Probably head over after breakfast around 9 or so.  I have room in my car if anyone wants to join me.  You can learn how I fly fish the surf for perch if your interested.

I'll be in site #93, just look for the NCKA flag.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Hi,
I'd like to try it with a fly rod.  I tried once before but had no idea what I was doing.  What weight rod would you suggest?  What type of line, leader #test, and length? What kind of flies to try
( hook size?).

Thanks,
Bob

Yeah, I'm all over that, been dying to Fly fish the salt for awhile. I'm gonna assume a 5 wt rod will do, with a sinking line? With sand crab patterns or big San Juan style worms.

I'd like to hitch a ride.  I think I'll probably drop my pots early then.  How long are you planning to be there?

BTW, does the pass issued at Doran Beach, get you into Bodega Dunes?  Both are state parks.

I just picked up a noodle rod to try my hand at perch. I'd like to tag along to learn from you guys, even if I don't have the fly fish gear!

Oh whoops, didn't realize the Dunes weren't in the area of Doran. Gotta hang with the family... have fun guys!

Sorry Jerry, Bodega Dunes is a State Park while Doran is a Regional Park. I think Dunes day use is eight bucks.Lots of pay to play 'round here  :smt012.

For fishing the surf I normally use a 7 weight due to the fact I can throw a shooting head much further and if you happen to hook a striper you'll be thankful for the extra rod.  But this time I plan to use my 6 weight with a type 8 line.  But I will also be bringing a lot of different shooting heads depending on surf condition.  For leaders I use 20 pound with dropper loops on it.  I usually throw a 3 fly rig.

For flies I have an assortment of surf flies but you can also use trout flies in sizes 12 thru 4.  Check out Mark Won's site, he is the one that taught me to fish for perch.  His site shows flies and has a ton of other information.   http://surf-perch.net/Fishing/

I am not sure how long I plan to stay, I am the kind of guy that can and will fish all day long through any type of tide.  So if you ride with me, you stay as long as I want to stay.  But if conditions are bad, we can leave earlier.  It will all depend on the fishing.  Looks like low tide will be around 7:56 with high tide at 1:43 pm.  So bring a lunch if you want, I know I will.

I'll post a pic of my fly box in a little bit.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!
