Is anyone interested in signing up for this class for Sunday 9/3.  I was signed up for last sunday but the class was cancelled because they couldn't get a second person  :smt012   I just got my boat and want to start off learning the right things.  I'd love to meet another newbie or anyone who just wants to refresh their training.

I just checked.  The meeting trtanscript is still not up so that each person can make an informed choice about MBK.

I've just started buying some of the basic things I'll need before I decide what boat to buy...I'm glad I read this though.

I usually try not to get into the politics of it all but I certainly don't want to support a shop that seems to be anti-fishing, if that is truely their official stance.

Thanks to all of you who take/took the time to attend the meetings and filter the information for the rest of us.

MBK is a bit inconsistent in their stance on fishing.........they sell fishing boats and host Allen Bushnell's fishing clinics, but they won't rent boats for fishing under any other conditions and they say things like that.

Once we have the transcript, we hope to review with them their postion on a healthy relationship with our ecosystem.

I have long been in internal conflict over MBK . .so it's cool that other people are making some of the same observations that I have.  On the pro fishing side, they sell fishing boats, rod holders, the Kayak Fishing DVD, and there is 1 guy who works there who is a pretty avid kayak fisherman.  He has given me some great launch and fishing spot tips over the last year or so.

On the other hand, they don't rent boats for fishing and, unless this 1 guy is working, I never mention to anybody there that I am about to go fishing (I store my yak at thier rental storage).

And now the small town facts of life part.  I would love to switch to a more pro-fishing shop but there isn't one.  Maybe Kayak Connection is marginally more supportive of fishing . .but it's 45 minutes away and that's too far of a drive for "marginally".   I try to get as much as I can from other places and the internet . .but sometimes find myself buying gear at MBK simply because it's right down the street.

I someday WILL go to GWK.  Next boat I buy for sure will come from there or from another shop that is inarguably pro-fishing.

Some smart business person hear me now.  Open a real tackle store in Monterey area.  There is not one.  Nothing!  Your competition will be only chain stores (outdoor world, big 5, marine west) and not one of them have what I would call a 'great' or even 'good' tackle dept.  I usually need to hit 2 or more places just to get supplies for 1 trip.

Also sell kayaks.  You will have at least 1 customer for life.  You will proably have 10-12 or more instant regulars just from this site and the shore guys (PFIC).

Wow,  good information.  That thread was eye opening.  I may have to plan future purchases differently

The video archive of the meeting is up and the quote from MBK is in the political forum.
