Use 30# leader on the end of 65# braid. You then can break the hook or jig off without cutting line or risk capsizing the yak. Do the "wrap around" the gaff handle or some other object with the braid then counter brace a bit and pull up.

Why not just use lighter hooks that will bend and save the rig?

It is not always the hook that hangs up or snags on bottom structure. The jig body or even a hook less sinker can get permanently locked into in a rock crevice and has to be broken off.

I use 30# Berkeley big game mono, 2' long leader with 50-65# spectra main line. It will consistently break off with maximal pressure from a kayak, good abraision resistance and cheap. If you are fishing structure you are going to loose lures. That's just part of the sport. If you are fishing big game, single hooks are stronger and get hung up less. I never lose light wire treble hooks. I would rather lose a dozen lures than lose a fish of a lifetime.  There are ways to lose less lures, but that is a topic for another discussion.

As far as lacerations, carry some flex wrap in your ditch bag. Flex wrap will put as much pressure as you need to stop the bleeding and will stay on when wet. It's the only first aide stuff I carry. Band aides are worthless on a kayak.

Thanks.  The flex wrap sounds like a great idea.
