A " non yak" friend wanted to go to Pyramid lake... Well that lake has been on my bucket list since I started fishing trout in late 2012.  I am by no means an experienced angler in terms of lure fishing trout but I try haha, I have caught a few in my youth on Kastmasters and basic tackle on sheer luck, but I have serious issues with setting the hook on a lure bite with trout, (probably from my bass fishing type mindset)

ANYWAY

We left around 12pm on the 28th and decided to take the scenic route of hwy 50.  Stopped here and there for drinks and visiting other friends who live in Tahoe. We make it to the 711 where you  can get your tribal camping and fishing permits for 10 dollars a piece per day which is cheaper than what I thought it would be honestly (They also sell 3 day and 10 day fishing and camping permits at a discount)

We drive around in the dark and find a nice camping spot to hold us over until morning fishing. I will warn whoever goes out there to camp, BRING SERIOUS COLD WEATHER GEAR! It gets viciously cold with the wind out there at night. I planned on toughing it out in my bag outside, Like I have done in mid January in Tahoe, and countless high alt. fishing spots, this place was just too much to bare for me. The wind will chill your bones down to their bones.

We enjoy a full night of shenanigans and laughs and finally turn in for the night. The next morning really caught me off guard.. We showed up at night so I had no clue what to expect. It was possibly one of the most serene moments of my life. We fished spoons and spinners all day( no bait whatsoever is allowed) I hooked into some serious feeling fish real early, The guy who took us caught a couple small ones but the slot limit is tight there and everything caught that day was released.

In hind sight, it was more of a scout trip for my yak and another week trip up there very soon. I know the fish here hit spoons like crazy now. I could not think of a better place to end my fishing year. I would love to get up there with my kayak before the end of january. Anyway, Here are a few pictures I took with my gopro. Cheers buddies.

Pyramid is a very special place. Alternate your shore spooning with foam beetles. See the lady at Crosbys Lodge for beetle info.

I will make sure I take more fly like tackle as well next time. I read the rules and it said artificial lures only, so i made sure that is all i had. I found out more of what i can use out there from a guy there last time. Needless to say I was carrying about HALF of what I should have taken. Jude I will certainly do this. I would love to test out my d.i.y stake out pole in those waters, nice smooth sand lol

I love this lake but the fish don't fight super hard. Heading up there this weekend or next.

I was surprised to hear that myself. A friend caught a nice looking 20 incher and threw it back, he said it was an easier fight than an Amador trout, which in my opinion DO NOT fight like they did back in the mid 90's and earlier.
