I've been looking at dry vs. wet suits.  Obviously, dry suits will keep you warmer depending on the undergarments.  Wet suits are cold with little to no warmth.
Looking for recommendations before I spend my kids inheritance on a dry suit.

thanks,

bob

I have both. but yet I prefer a combination of a 3mil farmer john with my tempest dry pants/or waders.
u can add a jacket if its cold, but in a dry suit once that devil sun shows its face I cook.

Any time I heat up in my dry suit I drop a leg in the water. Or a hand. It's amazing how fast the cold water can suck the heat out of you.

When I capsized yesterday and couldn't right my waterlogged yak and was in the water for half an hour I was glad that I had a 7mm full wet suit on rather than a dry suit which would leaked enough to soak me by then.

Not sure about that. I used my angler dry suit a few weeks ago during a rescue class. I was in and out of the water constantly for 4 hrs. My under layers were a little wet at the end of the day but not enough to make a difference. The water was right around 50* and I was fine. The two times water did get in we're because I didn't have my relief zipper fully closed, and being upside down in a white water kayak doing wet exits. The kokatat angler suit doesn't have a neck gasket and water can get in. which is fine if you always ware your PFD.

Agree. Dry suits if you have proper clothing underneath give you better protection. Current water temp on the bay is 50 degrees. A 7mm wet suit will protect you for about 3-5 hours. Factor in a 40 - 50 degree air temp probably around 4 hours. http://www.wetwear.com/howthick.htm

Do you find it difficult to paddle with a full 7mm wet suit on?

Not very.  Of course it restricts your range of motion somewhat but neoprene stretches a lot.

Dont mean to jack thread but , Kokatat Hydrus 3L worth the extra money or NRS endurance work just as good ? Just no hood  :smt012 The price of Hydrus i could get an 1mm jacket and NSR , plus have a little extra. If money wasnt an option i would defenitly go dry suit route of course. All i fish is saltwater.
