Bowline believers and those who paddle boats with shock cord hatch straps, know all too well how dissatisfying it is when your hook sinks deeply into one of these lure magnets.
I find it especially frustrating on swifter moving rivers when things happen quicker and chaos rides a little higher.
My first gen solution is removing the shock cord and replacing it with bungee and vinyl tubing.
So far, all ops are smooth.

Since 99% of my fishing is barbless it's a non issue, but for those who don't pinch or file this is an excellent idea.
I imagine the same could work with straps.
Thanks for sharing Terry.

Big fan of internal floatation and minimal dead space so I use a lot of pool toy floatation to fill the void.
I also believe in making that floatation functional so that the hull is still useful for gear storage.
Running both transducer and power source cables through the pool toy floatation keeps the cords contained and out of the way of rods/gear that might need to be stored in haste.
The transducer remains inside of the floatation and I goop it directly to the hull and spot goop the flotation rib as well. All ops are smooth.

I like the bungee idea. I've cut lines and had lures hanging from my cudas rod tip cover all day. No way I'm climbing up there to free the hooks while otw.

Had a feeling that the vinyl sheathed bungee might be helpful to those paddling the Jackson boats.
A few reps from JK were in "the lab" last year and seemed to take some interest in this modification.
Not sure it will make it to JK R&D, but this is very easy project.

Here are a few recycled photos of some other functional floatation ideas. Once I put something into the hull I want it to be right where I left it when I go for the retrieve. I also think its important as far as the preservation of balance/weight distribution when tackling challenging hydrology.
Once the boat is set up with in hull gear mounts, Ill pack the rest of the boat as full as functionally possible with more floatation. Im not sure why, but very few SOTs come with bulkheads.
This mod may make your ops not only smoother but hopefully a little bit safer.

Great idea Terry wonder how those poly bungies would work

I used vinyl tubing over the cables on my first boat to prevent hooks getting stuck in them. Worked good. Another option is to use the solid rubber bungies.
