I decided the Davenport launch was too much work too early in the morning so I went to Capitola for the 1st time. Saw lots of kelp on a previous scouting trip and I'm better fisherman in kelp conditions. Read one report about strippers there.
Launched from Elkhorn Campground toward the yellow buoy because a lot of PBrs were mooching. Mooching nada though so I headed toward the point trolling all the way for more nada. Nothing on radio, FF, nor action on PBs. I decided when the wind came up, sun came out to line-up on the kelp and drift back with the wind. Using a large Sabiki, I caught four large mackerel by dropping in the honey holes. They will be crab, lobster bait.
Since the others went to Bean Hollow, I posted this lame report to let them know I didn't get eat'n by a GW at Davenport. As I was packing-up, two guys came by in a truck to see my yak, macs, and recommend Davenport because they have a PB and had great fishing there Friday. :smt013
Anyone going to Dav next weekend? :smt009

you guys sure are a bunch of complainers and whiners when it comes to capitola.

when you say mooching (for rockfish?), you had live or frozen anchovies or what?

with all those anchovies around, live anchovies are the way to go.

trolling for stripers is pretty low percentage. but it's fishing.  what did you troll?

sounds like JTF has some intel on halibut and stipers being caught.

in the 1960's a girl got eaten right off new brighton beach, so technically you weren't safe from the sharks in capitola either,  :smt002, just safe from bad weather. did you see any girls in bikinis on paddleboards?  :smt003.

No, being 2006 you will only see college co-eds on a jetski who laugh like teenagers as they mow the kelp beds. It's summer in Capitola! :smt012

Ah, jetskis are illegal in the Monterey bay marine sanctuary. You must have seen "motorized personal watercraft". which are allowed since they can carry more than one person.
Makes sense to me, not.

Yes, it was a 2 person wave-ski intentionally going thru kelp to impress his girl. :smt013
