does anybody have any experience or own both. I'll be using it mainly for bass fishing in the bay area and will be car topping it.

thanks for your feedback.

I own both the Sport and Outback multiple times.  For you fishing style, I would go with the Sport.

I fished five years out of a sport.  It was very stable, but slow. I went to a revo and could not believe the difference.  Turning, tracking, and speed are much better in the revo.  I never went to the outback because of the weigh.  The sport I could muscle up on top of my Subaru by myself.  The revo I can muscle up with a wheelez on the back.  Good luck.   The sport is limiting if you go to the salt.  The revo can do both fresh and salt no problem.

would turbo fins be a vast improvement to compensate the speed?

I had an outback with turbo fins and sail rudder. I still hated life at times. I highly recommend u go out and demo the kayaks before u make a big investment. I'm telling u this from personal experience. A few questions u want to ask and get answers for yourself when u demo is...
1. Can I stand and pitch comfortably? I know for a fact that I could stand on my outback all day on a lake with no probs but when you are actually fishing and tossing lures, balance is an issue. If u can't fish on it standing up comfortably, opt for a revo.
2. Is it comfortable? How much room do u have to wiggle around? Is there enough deck space to install what you need? Will it be easy enough to turn around to grab other rods?

I bought a OB for my son after trying the OB, Sport, and Revo.  Sport was too cramped since my son is over 6' tall.  OB felt more stable then the Revo and Sport.  Sport seemed to not track very well.
BTW, I added the longer fins and bigger rudder to the OB and it made a big difference.

If I'm not mistaken, the new sport has a redesigned front end on it somewhat similar to a revo/adventure. Looks like there would be less bow slap and it probably tracks better with maybe a bump up in the speed department.

I will admit that I have always had a soft spot for the sport. Looks like a great little bass/crappie boat for small-water deep cover/flooded trees/reeds etc.

Good luck on your choice!

Outback owner for four years... I cartop and still have not purchased wheels, so it's not outrageously heavy. Purchasing a sport for my wife soon. Going sport for her due to her size ( 5'5") cost ( a few hundred cheaper than OB) and lighter= easier for hèr to carry.
Defiately demo all three models, each has features that make them ideal for individual needs and uses. Depends on were u are in the bay but we demo'ed the sport at a place in Oakley right under the Antioch bridge... They have all three models and you could easily try standing and pitching lures in their marina, plenty of bass around (in the summer at least) Have fun shopping.
