Has anyone been fishing around these areas for striper? I went out on Tuesday for striper over by wimpys and was unsuccessful. My buddy went out out rio vista bridge and caught a couple of striper. I haven't caught one yet, I tried at the yakhopper event at turners cut but was unsuccessful. I just really want to catch one to eat. I want to go fishing on Saturday if the wind is good

Hi Bonafide,

The stripers have gone pretty far into the San Joaquin side. I've been catching a lot between the 24-26" range using live bluegills. You can try launching from King Island and fishing Disappointment Slough or from Lad's Marina and drift towards the port. Both very good spots if the hyacinth isn't too bad. Good luck!

So you just go out and catch blue gills with worms and then hook the blue gill back by the tail for bait?

Yes. Blue gills can be hard to find this time of year. Try docks and under bridges. I catch them drop shotting with redworms and then hook them through the lips. Use them just like jumbo minnows.

Beware if you fish beaver slough and launch your kayak by blossom rd bridge. I fished there last weekend with no problems. Go fishing there today for striper sand got skunked. Caught some lg mouth bass. Loaded my kayak up and start driving home. I notice my gas light is on. I think to myself that is weird I had a 1/4 tank this morning. Maybe somebody got into my gas cap? Pull up to the chevron in Thornton and start filling up. I start smelling gas and see gas spilling from underneath my SUV. I look under the car and I see a hole somebody used a 3/8 drill bit and drilled into my gas tank. SOB I yell. So fellow kayakers beware of launching there, somebody was upset I launched there

Yes that's the place. I was out there longer last Saturday. Pisses me off people go out of the way to do evil to others. That place hasn't been good for weeks. No more salmon and stripes in that area. I'm done with that spot. For now on I'm launching at a marina. Cost me $30 worth of damage and gas. Thank goodness no other damage was done

man that sucks! i was going to try there for stripers next week too! Just found out about that spot 2months ago for salmon....might have to rethink it now. Stripers have been slow the past two days on Disappointment Slough and Deep Water Channel, not sure why. Only got 2 barely legal keepers today out of shear luck. Might have to go back to Sherman Island and scout around. Hyacinth is super thick....

Yeah, I was planning a trip out there in the next month. Not no more!!! I've always been cautious of that spot for some reason. I guess my gut was right. Would love to get my hands on the guy though! Can someone say crab bait? ;)

That place was great with salmon. I caught 5 back in there in a secret spot. My neighbor said he knows the landowner that lives either by beaver slough or hog slough. I'll get more info next time i see him that way I can get back there and not have my vehicles by the public road. I heard from other fisherman that hog slough has been producing more stripers

It's a bit out of the way for you, but I managed a couple keepers (biggest was 28+) and six fish total out at Sherman Island yesterday.(11/30)  I dunked jumbos and trolled a shad rap.  The bite was better in the morning.

Good luck to you in your striper hunt.

Aaron

I just want to land some keepers to eat. Haven't had much luck in beaver, and hog slough. I'm willing to try other areas. Probably not alone though since I don't know other areas that well. Maybe we can do a hookup with a group of guys and catch some striper
