Time to seriously start capital punishment on these sorts of crimes. I'm not even joking.

If you back up your files to an external hard drive, once the backup is done, disconnect the external unit from the computer.

Also, change the default Windows setting that hides the extensions for files. Doing so will show if any downloaded files (e.g., Fish.jpg or Fish.pdf) are actually Fish.exe which you do not want to doubleclick until you're very sure about the file. Really dumb that Microsoft chose to hide file extensions, by default.
