Soaked crab pots from my yak for the first time today and im HOOKED!!.. I ended up with 2 beautiful dungys and one MASSIVE jumbo that took up half of my bucket...while soaking my pots I noticed a fellow kayaker with a nice 23+ ling.. he gave me some pointers and 30mins later I landed my first ling literally just an inch of being legal..both caught at the tip of the jetty on  swimbaits. Crabbing seemed slow today..a keeper here and there lots of pots coming up empty... heard people that soaked theirs over night managed just 4-5 keepers in the morning. I was also able to talk to a couple NCKA guys who gave me valuable info.. it was a pleasure to meet you guys! Ill definitely see more of you guys at some of these hookups

Sounds real SLOW, how many pots were you soaking?

Doran seems to be slower than other places. Any bait works but if you're not getting crab just move your traps around.

Nice going on the dungies Doug. I hope you get your limits on your next trip. Just waiting for my crabs to be cooked too. Got mine in HMB crabbing with G-wiz and some of the Loose Screws.

Way to get out there and get them!! Don't be discouraged if you don't get full pots all the times, it happens to all of us...

Plus, certain area have different " 5-year cycles" for crabbing; I believe this a the 4th year in the cycle for that area. If you are seeing "ALOT" of shorties, then next year is slated to be a good year.....

Remember: the best bait to use is one that will send out the longest & continuous  scent trail..... this is what attracts the crabs to the pot, the hanging carcass just keep them busy till you pull the pot....

I soaked three pots ..two where box crab traps and one was a crab ring which I checked every 15-30mins...the crab traps I checked each 1.5-2 hours... I stayed stayed within 18-20 ft..I used a salmon head, mackerel, squid, and chicken. .they loved the salmon head and oily mackerel squid combo.. at first I was getting a dungy at each trap but by 12 it was dead...I was just happy to be out! The jumbo and the ling where a bonus

I tired uploading a pic of the jumbo ..measured just about 8inches

Next time you go, bring extra bait; and add fresh bait after you check your traps. This will send out a fresh scent trail for them damn crabbies to follow.

And BTW: nice dungie! Reminds me of the movie ALIEN....
