Hobie seat backrest

Here are some photos of a DIY PVC backrest that I use on my Hobie Adventure. It's designed to eliminate pressure points on my back and, for me, it makes a huge difference. Without it, my back is unhappy after about 2 hours, but with it, I've been out for 7 hours with virtually no back discomfort. Construction-wise, the only (slightly) tricky thing is that the tubes that run from the rod holders to the backrest were heated and bent to obtain the desired angle.

Possible future enhancements include replacing the bungee cord (used bicycle inner tubes might work) and making the angle adjustable. Ultimately, I'd like to eliminate the stock Hobie seat-back entirely and just have a lawn chair style back, with a foam cushion for lower-back support.

Looks very interesting.  My ride is a Revo but the lower back fatigue is the same.  I look forward to hearing how it works out and any enhancements you come up with.
