ESPECIALLY for somebody who doesn't fish in the ocean up here!  :smt005

Lol....

I've surfed up here for years (in undergrad school) and been out on my yak.

I just find worrying about sharks to be pointless.  If they are gonna hit you, they're gonna hit you.

No sense in stressing about it since it is a 1 in a million event.

The stake-out pole is the answer, depending on depth/bottom.I used one of those rubber-coated dumbbell weights for the front and the small-anchor that you can use open,if strong wind/current or closed,to drag the bottom. When approching the spot, drop the rear anchor and let the wind/current take you where it will(ropes end)then drop the front anchor and rewind a little on the rear rope,at the same time you are giving a little rope to the front. It can be fun(not)at times.Try the rear drop and drag method if it seems safe(my favorite)

This is one of the times I think having a Hobie w/ mirage drive helps a lot. It doesn't exactly make it easy to stay in one spot but easier than with a paddle. You just have to learn to get your bow in the wind, lightly peddle, and twist at your waist to shoot for your spot. Sometimes it just doesn't work out and you have to anchor. But anchoring is a pretty simple operation. If you're a fisherman that moves hole to hole a lot this isn't an option though. Like they all said, this is what fishing from a kayak is all about! :smt004
