Can't say I've fished it yet but will be living up there full time as of June. Lots of lakes to fish up there. Looking forward to it. If you fish up that way often, maybe we'll see each other on the water sometime.

Shastina used to get some pub as a decent bass fishery but haven't heard about it for a while. My family has had a cabin up on Copco since the 60's so if you need some general advice on the area PM me...I aint giving up any secret spots though, LOL.

Since I don't fish bass really anymore, I will give you one tip. Trout lake in the Shasta Valley Refuge right outside Montague, not such a secret anymore, but is still excellent. You can only fish it certain times of the year and days of the week, check the regs, perfect little lake for a kayak. Fished there years before people figured it out, big trout in there too. Don't fish it much now days since there is so much good fly fishing water close by and I'd rather be on a stream...

Driven by it a number of times but I've never fished it and don't know anybody that has.  I'll ask around to see if I can find anything out, for some reason it's just never been on my radar.

LOL, I was wondering when he would come up in this thread!

Not much in the way of dedicated tackle stores up there. Walmart in Yreka is your best bet. If you fly fish then go see Bob at the Ted Fay Fly shop in Dunsmuir...

Shastina used to be pretty good for bass and some decent sized trout trolling the main channel. Its super low right now.. I was there last week... working. Like a previous post mentioned, trout lake is awesome but it does'nt open until April 1st( check that) and its only open wed,sat and sunday. Mcloud is a great kayaking lake and extremely scenic as well. Every now and then you can hook a beautiful brown, and some bright native fish. Siskiyou lake has some decent trout fishing and the smallmouth fishing can be stellar. Let me know if you come up.. we could fish a day..
I miss fishing the bay area salt...

Thanks, I was searching internet for info on fishing Shastina and see there was lawsuit to tear the dam down, it was settled in December, not tearing it down but they have to increase water flow for the salmon in Shasta river, maybe they already did and with lack of rain would make it very low.

My wife and I made the trip up to take a look at the area, lake was very low, but if you want a nice home on a lake and/or golf course and with a huge view of Mt. Shasta real estate is still very inexpensive compared to the rest of California.

Not sure how the fishing is but the water district recently settled with a group up there to always let a certain amount of water out of the lake to protect the salmon spawn. With the drought probably why the lake is so low.
