I'm torn between color or gray scale, it took me long enough to decide I wanted a 4 instead of a 4x but I've never had gps before so I thought why not try it out since it isn't too much more on the wallet.  Any ways, how much better or crucial is the color model compared to the gray scale? Is it worth it?

Go color.  You would most likely find yourself upgrading later if you went b&w.

Pm sent.

I am just in the process of installing a grey scale Mark 4. Screen looks good and bright on yak in yard. You might consider finding out if there is much difference of battery draw on B/W versus color. My intended use is pretty basic. Depth and structure for fishing and GPS for fog navigation and I think it will do the job.

The power consumption on both are ~equal at about 1/4 amp.  Power consumption really isn't a factor in the Lowrance line unless you are planning on running for a few days w/o charging.  I run the Elite 7 & can get 2 trips out if a charge.

Thanks Bill

Appreciate the information on power consumption. I upgraded from a B/W Garmin 100 FF to the Mark 4 mainly to have GPS on a readable size screen. My hand held Magellen GPS was hard to see under ocean fishing conditions. Old eyes difficulties.

I went to West Marine and played with both models and found I liked the color better.  And since I figure I'll have this toy for a little while the extra money is worth it also battery life isn't a concern.  But seeing as other models were there I played with a few more and came to the conclusion that I don't really need GPS as all I fish is the delta and the bay, I hardly ever venture out to the ocean until crab season but I'll be close to shore.  I liked the Elite 4x as a fish finder better than the Elite 4 for some reason so that's what I'm going to get.  Thanks for the input guys.
