I have been told to get rid of the oilcanning effect on the bottom of my kayak that I should lay it out in the sun.  Do I lay it out upside down or right side up?  Do I lay it on the ground or put it on some saw horses or something like that?  It doesn't seem to effect my maneuvering, I just don't like the looks of it.

thanks for any info
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Scott

My kayak oil canned from my cart a few weeks ago in Santa Cruz and I figured I would fix it when I got home with boiling hot water and let reshape. I laid my kayak upside down on my roof rack and by the time I got home the dent was gone. 2.5 hour drive and laying it upside down worked for me. Good luck buddy.

Upside down in the sun if it doesn't get hot enough tape a black trash bag over the dent to get more heat

Leaving it upside down works most of time. It's its really bad I suggest putting it in between saw horses and filling it with WARM water. That will usually do it. A pry bar will help

I'll leave it outside upside down tomorrow on my car before I go fishing.  It should get a good 8 or 9 hours in the sun.

thanks everyone

Don't strap it down tight while it is in the sun.  But do remember to tighten the straps before taking off.   :smt002
