Thinking of heading up to Copco or Iron Gate this weekend. I have never been there; however I hear there a lot of yellow perch that are tasty and the remains of the filets may make good crab bait. Anyone ever been there or want to go?  :smt006

Any Northstate slayers heading out this weekend?

You my get a few, but you missed it by about a month. We go up there a few times a year, and you can catch about 100-200 fish a day. The yellow perch taste like crab, and are called poor mans crab! I was there last week and only caught 6 very small fish, but I only fished for about 1/2 hour, the wind really picked up.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!... who told you about these lakes?

Nah, just kidding. Yeah, they are loaded with yellow perch, crappie, bullhead and channel cats and some big bass and trout. I usually fish Copko. Mallard Cove is a sweet campground and the fishing is great right there, but I usually go under the bridge and fish where the Klamath is coming in for monster trout and tons of yellow perch. If you like eating crawdads, bring your traps and dump them in the rocky shallows where the Klamath dumps in. The traps will be stuffed full of big signal craws. These lakes are amazing and somewhat unknown still, a couple boats per day, and those are locals. If you fish for cats there, don't stay up late, get up extra early. I would seriously consider going if it weren't for large Canada goose opening up next weekend.

Good luck

Very impressive and appreciated info on these little-known waters.  Good luck if you go, Dr.   :smt001

I am definitely interested in any intel on these lakes. I might be able to make a hookup I'll know later in the week.
