Hi all,
My name is Vince and am new to kayaking. I now have a Ocean Kayak Malibu 2XL and am looking forward to my first outing... I plan to use the kayak as a solo yak for fishing and diving in Norcal waters and as a family tandom kayak with my wife Annette. Since it is a sit-on kayak, we will most likely need proper clothing when on a river or lake. Anyone have any suggestions on women's clothing to keep my wife warm and dry? What brand wear does everyone else use?

Thanks for letting me be a member.

Vince R

Welcome to NCKA Vince.  For river or lake kayaking, if you're on a budget, a 3mm wetsuit should be sufficient.  A dry suit is more comfortable but will cost 3 - 4 times more.

Thanks Sailfish!

My wife and I will be doing both river and lake. I want her to be comfortable. She doesnt want a wetsuit, just water resistent clothing or clothing that wicks moisture out. Im not sure what would be best for her.

I will be getting a 7MM wetsuit as I will be using the kayak solo for ab diving. Taking my first mentor dive next month. My wife wants nothing to do with the ocean.

Hi Ken!  My husband and I are also in Prunedale and just started kayak fishing.  Like your wife, I don't like the wetsuites/farmer johns for kayaking.  I bought NRS pants and a splash jacket at MBK and they work great.  I seem to splash a lot when I paddle, but they keep me warm even if the breeze is up.
