I started fishing when I was about 4 years old on Candlewood Lake in western CT.  Then in the 90's I spent most of my free time surf fishing in SE Florida.  I moved to NorCal in '98, and have mostly been fishing saltwater (rock fish, halibut, salmon, striper).  When I'm not fishing, I'm either hunting, hiking, or biking.

My kayak experience is almost nothing.  A few weeks ago I spent about an hour in my cousins kayak on a lake, but didn't do any fishing...it was a very simple sit-inside model, but it got me seriously thinking about kayak fishing.

So, I picked up a Field & Stream Eagle Talon 12' kayak a couple days ago.  I also dropped some cash on a wetsuit, neoprene boots & gloves, a Stearn's Hybrid PFD, and last night I built a PVC kayak cart.

Maiden voyage will be Friday morning in Half Moon Bay.  I'm going to hang out in the harbor for a while until I get comfortable with the feel of the kayak before heading out into open water.

I'll post up a fishing report Friday night (if I survive!)

Welcome aboard. A great place to learn about both fishing and safety. Good luck

Don't go Solo... if you do... Take a VHF radio with you. The life you save may be your own.... :smt006 Welcome to the Site... :smt003
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Definitely not going to go solo in the ocean (or the SF bay) anytime soon.  Going with my brother (also a kayaking newbie) on Friday.  Hopefully I can keep the kayak (and myself) upright.
