Just got my mid-life crisis settled and ready to get my feet wet. While I swim in the bay (without wetsuit), I'm not sure I'm ready for kayaking in the bay yet (tried to put in last weekend from Richmond Marina and the wind just blew me back on shore!-P). Took the hint and am practicing at San Pablo Dam Reservoir for now. Maybe will take the fishing pole along this weekend.

Will be exploring the site looking for tips on calmer areas to fish to start.

I'm also a newbie at fishing despite my advanced years. Love it though, and looking forward to catching my first halibut down here.

I also need to stock up on safety gear for the bay (vhf, flag, light, ...?).

If you're East Bay/Marina Bay maybe we'll run into each other (figuratively I hope).

Great to have found this forum,
Peter (yamo)

Not sure the img link is working, but the yak at San Pablo Dam last weekend (no fishing yet).

Welcome!  :smt006

Search 'safety' and you'll find a wealth of information.  Start slow, build your confidence in your kayaking abilities, then add fishing into the mix.  The madness will follow, and it's all fun and games from there.  :smt001

I hope you didn't try going out o Richmond late morning or in the afternoon- though I'm not too familiar with that area, generally the winds are much lighter in the a.m., but with Offshore Flo in town, it could be blowing an odd direction and at odd times.  You should check out the "Point and Click" weather forecast on Coastside Fishing Club's website - it will show you the predicted winds for any spot at several times during the day - and you want less than 10 knots for safety and comfort, probably less than 5 knots  for beginning.
