I'm thinking of heading up to anchor bay to rockfish this weekend. Does anyone have experience launching on the beach there by the parking area and if so is it doable in a PA? I've heard it can be pretty hairy in there? Anyone else up there this weekend?

It can be a knarley surf launch at the campground. Sometimes it is not too bad. Bring wheels and roll to the north end of the bay for an easy flat launch. Fees are a little high but nothing like timber cove.

How is it wheeling all the way to the north in the sand? I'm assuming it will be tough as I don't have beach wheels.  How far is it?

FWIW - It's supposed to be FAC this week-end, so launching pretty much anywhere shouldn't be an issue.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Thanks rock hopper. Have you launched at that anchor bay spot and do you know if its doable when it's calm out in a PA?

The doability is directly proportionate to your level of surf-launch experience divided by the sum of the swell height added to the swell interval. Multiply by three if the dominant swell is coming from the west or south.  In other words, make sure your gear is secure and go for it. You'll be fine. The sand there is soft and doesn't taste half-bad.

I fish Ab and you will want to launch and land in chicken cove.  Even in FAC the beach can yardsale you just ask Rockfish.  If you are in chicken cove still watch the sets so you don't get ahead of them ask Hermes.  Its a pretty easy launch but you will need wheel or can use the AB campground cart (free).

The fishing there is awesome and I'm not sure what the comment about the price is but I feel it is very reasonable for the facility (I believe it's $9 to launch). The fish cleaning station is one of the best along the coast.  After you launch head NW there is good fishing around the kelp and try outside fish rock if the conditions are right.

I'm contemplating heading up  this weekend.  Not sure if AB or another location I want to scout out.

But diffidently not TC

I got there before the booth was open and i may have accidentally overstuffed the fees envelope. Is it $9 per car or $9 per person(kayak)

For day use, it's $3 per car + $3 per person +$3 kayak launch fee

Which is still a good deal. I usually camp when I stay there due to distance from home.

I may be fishing AB Saturday camp there then fish another area Sunday. I will let you know.
