My first time ever ocean kayak fishing, at Half Moon Bay today 9/2/13. Was lucky enough to run into four NCKA members just heading out at 7am who showed me the ropes. Now I need to trick out my kayak like you guys!

Decent rockfish, were biting squid, I stayed close to shore and split off from the group mid-morning to make it back to Oakland in time for lunch. Caught six rockfish various sizes, two were too small which I threw back and kept 4 including a nice Vermilion.

Attached are a couple of pics.

Grilled up a couple (very tasty!) and froze a couple.

Thanks again for the helping a rookie out!

Matt (oldboy)

Hey Matt - Nice meeting you today.  I was on red Hobie AI less the sail.  The fog eventually burned off and fishing got better.   It was a mid afternoon bite under beautiful weather conditions.  I managed to get a Ling limit and had to head in with Eugene (Paddlefish) with the blue Revo 13.

Don (Elusive) on the dune AI and  Bob (Taurus987) on the yellow OK Ultra 4.7 stayed late and killed them.  Its best they tell their story.

Cheers - Mel  :smt006

We didn't see any caught salmon that day.  I was next to a guy cleaning a 20+ lb halibut at the fish cleaning station.  A tourist around him wanted to buy it from him.
