I did a 10 mile cruise from Shag Slough Liberty Island bridge down to the Haistings Island bridge and back. I trolled for Stripers all the way down. It was a bit windy so if I stopped paddling for long I would get pushed against the shore. I was wondering what I would do if I hooked a striper and had to stop paddling to reel it in. It seems like it could be a safety issue. How do you handle this situation?

Do you need to let the fish wait while you deploy the anchor? Or do you troll with your anchor rope in your lap in case you need it?.

I toss the fish one of those buzzers like they give you while you wait for a table at a restaraunt. Then I just buzz him when Im ready......I keep the float behind my seat so I can deploy it pretty quick.

I would let the wind push me to shore.  Alternately I would leave the rod in the rodholder and move toward the windward shore giving myself more time to fight the fish.
