So, I'm taking a couple of my buddies out fishing this weekend.  Suggested renting a skiff at SC/Capitola, but they wanted to hit freshwater first.  I was thinking of buying some worms, nightcrawlers for my buddy's son to use on a bobber setup for whatever is willing to bite while I have my friends casting around with some bass lures.

So in short, I think we will mostly be targeting small panfish and bass.  We will be renting a boat.  Any advice as to which place would be better for our target species?  Have not been to either reservoir so any info is appreciated.  Thanks!

I like sp for the fact that I know I better. Cats are hittin right now for sure. Target the rocks and shade trout are a little deeper but doable on the troll crappie are like unicorns but I hear here showing at the rocks points mixed up with the bass. Good luck and give em hell
I like to have fun.......

Both lakes are great but I'd like to throw in the fact that Lafayette have been planting 1,000lbs of kitties every Tuesday since late June. Can I get a "guaranteed"?

I was leaning towards Lafayette since its a smaller body of water and figured it should be easy to scope out some spots.  This just helped make my decision.

Never really fished for catfish before.  What would be good for bait here?  Also, are they just anywhere or would I have a better chance by locating some type of cover or structure they stick to?

I like to fish the south cove where its shallower and the water is warmer, throw close to the tullies. I've had success with market shrimp cut in halves, large crawlers or cut mackeral works too.

Lafayette's boats are row boats unless you have a trolling motor to put on a boat.  Ditto on fishing in tight to tullies for cats.  Also a decent bass population in the same area.

Just an FYI, I don't think their rental boats come with an anchor....
