Saturday's conditions are looking pretty good. I'm looking at a quick day trip to stock up on some cod fillets and have some OTW fun. I've never done too good straight out of Noyo so I might do Russian Gulch or Van Damme.
I heard of salmon nearshore hitting surf smelt but it's not %100 reliable. I'd like something more substantial to go on before paddling my arms off for nothing.
I'll try to confirm Friday night.

I would love to go-I cannot do Saturday as I am volunteering at at a Cancer Resource Center Benefit. Any chance you wanna go Sunday, too or instead, Juan?

I could be all over that.

If the stars align I would like to go.  Van Damn is an easy launch when waves are ankle slappers. (my type)  Have you ever gone north to Mendocino Cove?  My son lives in Mendocino and he says he has only seen one boat there in the three years he has lived there.  It got my interest.

Yeah, Mendo Cove is fairly easy from Russian Gulch. I never make it that far, too many good looking rocks side-track me on the way there!

I'll be up there the following weekend 30th-2nd if anyone wants to head out. I'll probably do a dive / fishing combo.

Conditions look primo!!
I think I'm going to Russian Gulch and try to stay the night thereabouts,(Van Damme is another camp option), and fish again on Sunday.
I might take my flyrod.

Where do you want to go Sunday, John? You choose, I'm easy.
Text or call me. I'll send you a PM with that info. I'll be off-line for the weekend after this message.
Saturday morning, I'm on my way. Late start but it's looking like it's nice all day. Going to R.G. and am going to try and camp there. Choice #2 for campsite is Van Damme.

As an FYI if RG or VD campgrounds are full or if you want another choice in between the two, Mendocino campgound just reopened.

def see party boats working the rock fish bite off the mendo headlands. usually the north side and often off the boneyards. four of us hit it the other day in kayaks. we all got nice lings, a couple over the 30" mark. unfortunately my hog was riddled with worms when I got to cutting. salmon were biting off the kelp line a week ago in ft bragg but its slowed down according to the party boat reports.

It definitely slowe down for salmon this week. Wekk before was pretty good according to some guys I talked to. I fished off Glass Beach on Thursday, the fleet was out there fishing the 100ft line. I saw only one shaker landed, one guy claimed he lost one at the boat. Nothing else I've seen or heard...but you'll never know, it can turn on as fast as it turned off. If you diving, it was a lake out there. Viz was 5-10, better at the bottom. I couldn't find the lings but some rockies came home with me. Be safe out there !
