So my son can't do our annual to the high country above Tuolumne, so I am going solo all the way up the coast from SF to Trinidad.  Just me my revo and my 96 Toyota.

The dates are 9/7 thru the 9/10.  Anyone who wants to suggest a hookup along the way lemme know...first day Doran, and then up to Trinidad for the remainder (open to other North Coast recommendations),  maybe I can get my first Salmon :smt005

I would just head straight to Trinidad, but that is just me. I love it up there. Have fun and good luck.

Don't miss a trip to Shelter Cove.  Even though rockfish/lingcod close a week before you'll be there, you can fish for a salmon or halibut, and just discovering Shelter Cove is worth the 40 minute drive from 101.  Salmon will be closed at Trinidad, but rockfish/lingcod won't.

Also, although maps and some stories could make Usal road seem like a great option, beware!  It can be a long and sometimes impassable drive from highway 1 to "Four Corners" above Sinkyone Wilderness State Park.

Good luck - have fun!   :smt001

Ha ha.  I wish someone would have told me that before my trip in July!  Wasn't too bad but it did make for a long drive.

Usal if fine right now. By fine I mean slow but passable. Don't try it in a rain storm.

What is it a super winding road?

What is it a super winding road?

Unpaved, steep, winding, prone to washout and not particularly well maintained.

Thanks everyone.  Sounds like I'll be getting some good mixtures of species, if I follow your leads..
