but even there own rules language doesn't necessarily disqualify him. It days fins or oars, no motors or sails.
Kayaks don't use oar's anyways  :smt005

It seems to me that the majority of folks on NCKA are saltwater fisherman rather than freshwater fisherman.  Am I wrong in that?

There are PLENTY of us who pilot the sweetwaters, but yeah, a lot of the events here are salt-water based. Hell you are only a hop and a skip from the Napa Marsh there Brutha, lots of places to explore there! :smt003
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I used to hunt the Sonoma Napa Marshes off of Hwy 37 for ducks when I was here in 2002.  Didn't know there was any freshwater to play in over there until you got to the Delta.  I do plan on getting down to the Delta as it's always been on my bucket list of places to fish.

I enjoy fishing saltwater as well but the only thing I've ever really done was inshore fishing for redfish, speckled trout, and flounder.  I've done a good bit of snapper, snook, and tarpon in South Florida on the flats as well.  It's a whole different ball game here though.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a drysuit before I head out here.  Probably need some different tackle too.  All my salmon rods consist of 4000 size spinning reels on 6'6" medium action rods that we used to catch them out of the rivers when I lived in Alaska.  They just aren't going to cut it for fishing out in Bodega Bay!!

LOL! Spinning reels work fine, and light/medium action with a 4000 series reel will get you tons of fun!!  :smt003

I  know you love bass and FW, but dude...you are right there on the coast!!!! Go out and get some!!

I'm sure plenty of guys on here from Santa Rosa area that would take you out, loan you whatever you didn't have and show you around. Your'e Coastguard...it's the least we can do.   :smt001

I know Jim, and I plan on hitting the salt.  I'd love to go jig up some halibut and lingcod.  We're actually having some Alaskan halibut that my 10 year old caught on vacation a week ago for dinner tomorrow.  I miss getting fresh bottom fish regularly.

I'll pick up a Kokatat and then we'll have to start getting some reports posted up!!!  I've got some Calcutta 400B reels on some heavy and X-heavy swimbait rods that will pull double duty in the salt!

Like the others said, I think you handled yourself very well with that club - they were obviously bent out of shape that you won, hehe! :smt003
You ROCK!

Personally, I try to go to as many FreshKATS tournaments as I can (although I need to work on my catching vs/ fishing ratio, haha) and would try to go to as many others as I could! I am not as experienced as most when it comes to ocean fishing, so the freshwater events are great for my current skill level.

I have heard that Ranch Seco (sp?) has some awesome bass....although it's also next to a decommissioned nuclear plant....

I hear there is a member here that put on a few kayak bass derbies at clear lake and also the delta. The were ok, but only drew 90-136 anglers. Herd there was a decent after party and some ok prizes.
Might be worth checking event thread as I here this member might have another event on October 26 and it may be the biggest he has done ;0)
Of course you might have to get some info from other members like Dr. Habenero or Vwool's wife Narisa.
Hope this helps

I fish primarily bass only and there's nothing in regards to kayak bass fishing in tournament format out there.  I wish there was.  I know bass n tubes allow kayak to fish with them.   Scbbbc is kinda picky on the type of watercraft allowed to fish in their circuit.  I remember they would let a guy fish out of a sea eagle 285fpb even those its a pontoon because the angler could stand and fish???
