After getting a lot of positive feedback about my home made shade canopy, I am wondering what it would take to make this into a real product for sale, heck maybe I could just get Hobie to buy me out!

Right now the design is basically a PVC frame that sets into the two rear flush mount rod holders in the rear of my Outback. Then a fabric sleeve is run over the PVC and secured with rope and clamp to the cleat on the nose of my yak... Pics will help clarify what I mean. The benefit ( or drawback) of this design besides looking a bit hokie, is that it is easily collapsed and stored. I would like to have an aluminum frame for a final version...what I am wondering however, is what all of u think would be an ideal shade system, what materials would you prefer to have on your yak, any performance specifications, and how much you would be willing to spend on something like that. Thanks for any input you are willing to provide. -Evan

Here is Hobies current version, not enough shade coverage IMO especially for a $200 price tag...

The ultimate would use shock corded lightweight aluminum poles for easy storage

I think I'll stay with a boonie hat and sunscreen.  Too much stuff above my head - no thanks! :smt011

Sometimes the simplest solution is also the most effective... Love the umbrella.
