This will be my first time with my kayak on this lake, going for some trout and bass.  Got skunked the prior time i came to this lake (first time) but i was also shore fishing and it was PACKED.

Planning on heading up Friday around 4 or 5pm and camping out for the night, wake up early and hit the lake for as long as possible.

Anyone with some pointers or advice PLEASE chime in! haha

Started fishing this year for cats and only had luck at a spot on the sac river my friend took me too but nothing too big, other than that really bad luck this year so I stopped, definatly was debating going prepped for them as well tho, might be going for a mix of everything though.

Any advice on trolling? Planning on having one pole for trolling from locations while we switch spots.

If your looking for trout my guess is they are laying on the bottom avoiding the heat. Ask how deep they are when you get there.

If it is trout you want from  Amador you would be better off waiting for fall. with the hot weather we have had I seriously doubt if any trout would be moving around.  Amador is a great trout lake during cooler and cold weather if you can get past the combat fishing conditions.
Always have a flag or some other way to make yourself more visible as the power boaters are prone to blasting around on the lake.
Fishing is cheaper than therapy!

I think you have a whole lot better of a chance in hooking up on bass, catfish, and crappie right now than you do with trout. I know they plant trout in the cooler months but with the warm weather, I doubt the trout will survive the lake's temperature.

I fish lake Amador frequently and I can tell you that the lake hold some monster bass and catfish. I'd recommend drop shotting for bass because during this time of year, the threadfin shad overwhelms the lake and you can fish other baits early morning but as the sun rises and the temperature soars, the bass will be located some 15-25ft down feeding on the schools of shad. If you have a fish finder it's a definite +1 because if you locate the schools of shad it's ACTION all day with the bass!

As for power boaters, do be careful... Not everyone boats ethically :smt003
Oh how I love the look on people's faces after they finish chowing down Rocky Mountain Oysters! Yup them oysters were good, now how were they made again?
