I have a lamiglass NorWest special, about a year old used maybe a dozen times.  Today I noticed the reel seems to be rocking side to side.  The reel seat is spinning on the blank.  To have them fix it I have to send it back, give them $20 to ship it back IF they say it is a defect.  $50 in the hole.

the seat has an open area under it, where I can see the blank.  Any ideas on how to repair this at home?

Damn that isn't good. Any reel seat issues are always bad times and the builder's fault. Only way I can see a fix would be cutting the front grip off, sliding the reel seat up, stripping and re-aboring if necessary. Next you would re-epoxy the area, slide the reel seat down, and align. Then you have to replace the front grip which generally means a cord wrap because you don't have the luxury of sliding it on like cork/eva. It's worth sending it back imo. :smt003

Lami will probably just ship you a new rod because it's their install of the seat that's the problem not over use. They have a great reputation warranty wise from what I have seen personally.

If you can see the blank, and you can spin the reel seat, try to inject some adhesive in there while spinning the reel seat around so that it schmears all around the inside. Wipe up any drips, let it set, and you're good to go.

I had a St. Croix rod do this, and when I sent it in for repair, this is what they did.

a: drill 2 small holes in reel seat with wire size drill bit, mix up 5 min epoxy and use a syringe to inject it into one of the holes until it squirts out the other.  then clean p with paper towel and tape over holes until its dry.  after that you should be good.

or
b: send it in and hope for the best.

good luck
:)

thanks all, I decided to stop whining and sent it in.  They said I didnt need a receipt but that $20 was mandatory.  Shimano's website says that if it is a defect they send it back on their dime which only seems fair.  This will most likely be my first and last lamiglas rod.

I must say that I'm not that impressed with my reel seat on my lamiglas mooching rod either.  My reel came off once last year while I was fighting a salmon on an Avet SX.  Was able to re-mount the reel, but in the moment of confusion I put it on backwards, and had to start reeling right handed and backwards.  :smt044  Oddly it worked fine since there wasn't a levelwind in the way! Fish got away though...  :smt012

Oh, but I forgot to mention that when I broke the same rod on a snag (totally my fault), I sent it in at Fishermans Warehouse for 15$ and received a brand new one about a three weeks later.  I was pretty happy about that.
