Yakkers:

I have been checking out some of the way various guys rig their yaks for salmon trolling and am blown away with how sophisticated a lot of these rigs are. It seems like adjustable scotty rod holders on a track system on the sides of the kayak right in front of where ones hands will be while paddling is ideal.

Does anybody have recommendations for these track systems that would fit a Jackson Cuda because when I was speaking to a guy this morning he said that there are basically two systems, they are not compatible with each other so you really need to buy the right system so support Scotty's ... he didn't know which was the right system, and after doing some research online neither do I ...

Any advice sincerely appreciated,
Russ

Yak attack gt90 rails and Scotty gear head track adapter #438. This is the only pic I have that you can see them. And go with the full backing plate. There is enough access on the cuda you won't need rigging bullets.

As others have said ... use the YakAttacks rails.  There are 3 version, a wider metal one (GT175), a narrower metal one (GT90), and a narrower plastic one (??).

The track that get installed on 90% of our Cuda builds is the Yak Attack GT90. We always use them with a backer plate for support. This supports both the Scotty 438 Gear head adaptor or the Yak Attack MMS which adapts a scotty base to the track. The MMS is a lot more solid for heavy duty use. I hope this helps. I have all this stuff in stock and if you want my help feel free to call us at Headwaters Kayak 209-224-8367.

I used a short GT175 YakAttach with a RAM ball insert for my GPS/FF.  LOVE IT!

So I got hold of Dan at Headlwaters Kayakers ... super knowledgeable and on the ball, ordered the rack system and rod holders he recommended so should be all set.  Thanks for the excellent service Dan, can't wait to get these in place and rods in them.

I thought the Scotty 428 track adapters would be the shit. Then I found out that on the left side of the kayak if you get a big enough fish on it will unscrew the mount. I would go wih the Scotty square mounts for a solid mount that will work best like Dan posted. For ocean trolling I don't put my rod in a holder.

That's what I sold him. If your hooking up big fish it's the best way to go.
